OSHA Celebrates 40
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is celebrating 40 years with some great information and videos posted on their website. Check out the interactive timeline and the special message from Assistant Secretary David Michaels.
Although we as safety professionals sometimes think of OSHA as a four letter word (if you get my drift) they were established with worker safety in mind and continue that agenda to this day. When we come down to the real issue at hand, we as a society could not self-govern ourselves enough to care about the safety and wellbeing of our workforce, therefore we needed a governmental agency to help us accomplish this goal. Without OSHA and their regulatory compliance standards, our workplace would be a very different environment. Instead of trying to ‘fight the system’ educate yourself as to what is required and how can you, as a safety and health professional, make a difference in the lives of your employees.
